Hi, I’m Michelle!
I am a writer, editor and journalist based in Toronto, Canada.
I spend most of my time as the Life & Social Media Editor at NOW Magazine – Canada's largest independent weekly – where I tell stories about community and culture, with a particular interest in millennials, race, gender, mental health, cannabis and tech. I also manage NOW’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
I have been a finalist for the National Magazine Awards and Digital Publishing Awards, and in 2017, I won a Next Generation/Diversity Scholarship from the Association of Alternative Newsmedia.
Outside of NOW, I am the Brand Editor for Hostelling International Canada, where I edit and manage the online magazine, and contribute to marketing and social media copy.
Additionally, I am a freelance writer with bylines in House & Home, Food Network Canada, DesignLines, NUVO, MONTECRISTO, and BC Living. I have provided copywriting, brand development, copy editing, and social media to Shopify, United Way, Fashion Magazine, Kijiji Canada, Ballet BC, and Vancouver Opera.
Prior to moving to Toronto, I worked at Vancouver’s Georgia Straight where I wrote food, lifestyle and entertainment stories and created a weekly cooking column. In 2014, my work was recognized with a scholarship from Les Dames d'Escoffier.
I am often invited as a speaker at the University of Toronto and Ryerson University. I have been featured on podcasts like We Really Like Her, Royal Canadian Movie Podcast, Viewpoints with Todd van der Hayden and Our City with Kirk LaPointe.
