Hi, I’m Michelle!
I am a writer, editor and journalist based in Toronto, Canada.
I spend most of my time as the Community Manager at Xtra – an LGBTQ2-focused news and culture online magazine – where I oversee social media that brings our readers together and drives audience engagement.
Outside of Xtra, I write for magazines like House & Home, Food Network Canada, DesignLines, NUVO and Bustle; host and produce the biweekly radio show Early Bird Special on ISO Radio; sit on the jury of the Polaris Music Prize; and occasionally DJ and perform standup comedy.
Prior to Xtra, I was the Life & Social Media Editor at NOW Magazine – Canada's largest indie weekly – where I told stories about community and culture, with a particular interest in millennials, race, gender, mental health and electronic music.
I have been a finalist for the National Magazine Awards and Digital Publishing Awards, and in 2017, I won a Next Generation/Diversity Scholarship from the Association of Alternative Newsmedia.
Before moving to Toronto in 2015, I worked at Vancouver’s Georgia Straight where I wrote food, lifestyle and entertainment stories and created a weekly cooking column. In 2014, my work was recognized with a scholarship from Les Dames d'Escoffier.
I have been a guest speaker, panelist and moderator at public events, and a podcast/radio guest on CBC Radio, We Really Like Her, Royal Canadian Movie Podcast, Viewpoints with Todd van der Hayden and Our City with Kirk LaPointe.
